Two Divas, One Anthem: Fey and Marta Sánchez Sweeten Pop with a New “Azúcar Amargo”

An explosive duo that brings back to life one of the most iconic anthems of the nineties

In an encounter that brings together history, talent, and emotion, Fey and Marta Sánchez have decided to merge their voices in a new version of Azúcar Amargo, one of the most memorable anthems in Spanish-language pop. This release, available from Friday, August 8, on all digital platforms, is more than just a collaboration: it is the reunion of two legendary careers that have shaped generations on both sides of the Atlantic.

The project emerges within the framework of the celebration of Fey’s 30-year career—an undisputed icon of Spanish-language music and a reference for an entire generation. The Mexican artist, with more than 20 million records sold, over 35 Gold, Platinum, and Diamond certifications, and multiple accolades from Billboard, the Latin Grammys, Premios Lo Nuestro, Eres, Oye, and others, also holds the record for consecutive sold-out shows at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional. She currently balances her artistic commitments with her work as an ambassador for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

She has performed massive concerts across the United States, Central America, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.

“Azúcar Amargo is a song that has marked many stages of my life and the lives of my audience. Being able to share it with a great voice like Marta’s at such a special moment is a gift for the fans and for ourselves,” Fey confesses, fully aware of the emotional significance this union holds for those who have followed her career since the 1990s.

For Marta Sánchez, this collaboration is another chapter in a career spanning nearly four decades. Known as the Queen of Spanish Pop, she is a singer and songwriter with more than 10 million records sold across Europe and the Americas. Her career began in 1986 as the lead singer of Olé Olé, with whom she recorded four albums and achieved major milestones, such as becoming the first Spanish group to perform at the Viña del Mar Festival and collaborating with Nile Rodgers.

In 1993, she launched her solo career with Mujer, whose hit single Desesperada sold over 1.5 million copies. Albums such as Mi mundo, Azabache, Desconocida, and Soy yo followed, achieving million-selling success and featuring prestigious collaborations with artists like Andrea Bocelli, Slash, and Carlos Baute. In 2008, her duet with Baute, Colgando en tus manos, became an international phenomenon.

She has also participated in musical theatre, television programs as a judge, and solidarity projects, such as the song Un mismo corazón during the pandemic. In recent years, she released the single Brilla, which reached No. 1 and donates its proceeds to cancer research. She is currently preparing her tour A solas con Marta, an intimate show celebrating her 35-year career.

The meeting between the two artists is no coincidence. Fey and Marta Sánchez already shared the stage on June 14 in Madrid during the Love the 90’s festival, where they performed this new version of Azúcar Amargo together, sparking euphoria among the audience. They are also part of the Dancing Queens tour, where, alongside Ana Bárbara, they celebrate the power and continued relevance of great female voices in Latin music.

This version of Azúcar Amargo preserves the melancholic essence that captivated audiences in 1996, while adding renewed strength through the vocal fusion of two artists who represent the very best of Ibero-American pop. In Fey’s words, it is “a tribute to our stories, our audiences, and the legacy of pop in our language.”

In 2025, Spanish-language pop dresses up to welcome these two queens on the same stage and in the same song. Because there are classics that never age—they simply transform.
